Don't forget the Peppa Pig show in Gateway until the 24th of this month. Shows are at 11am & 2pm.

Admission is free but they catch you with the toys. R150 for a small peppa pig or R200 for Peppa and George. There's also a blow up branded "hammer" (for lack of a better word) for R100 each. At least it's not the cheap lightup junk that was sold at the Peppa Pig play which broke in 15mins. These toys will last.
The show is 30mins and then you'll need to wait for an additional 30mins to take a picture with Peppa. Thankfully this is free and they use your cell.

Thankfully load shedding affected the mall but not the show. Well done Guys.

Sitting on the floor can be uncomfortable but the kids love it and it's worth the trip.

Port Natal Maritime Museum

The Port Natal Maritime Museum situated along the harbour is a little known tourist attraction in the city. Maritime history is not something that interests the masses but it’s a great place to snap some interesting photos.

The museum has two vessels that you can board and explore. The volunteers at this museum invest a lot of time into the restoration of these vessels and you’ll be amazed at the wealth of knowledge they possess on the maritime history of Durban.
The museum is small and can be completed in an hour or less, probably more if you’re the type of person that reads all the displays.

Not for everyone, teenagers will probably be bored. If you’re at Wilson’s Wharf and have a few minutes to spare then consider visiting it. Here’s a few pictures of our visit so you have an idea on what to expect.

Paradise Valley

Beneath the bustling N3 freeway is a well-known nature reserve called Paradise Valley. The reserve is particularly popular because it’s a stone’s throw from the city and yet offers many trails in lush forest and a spacious picnic site. The picnic site is situated close to the entrance and is alongside the Umbilo river which runs through the reserve.

Entrance fees are R15 per adult and R11 per child (3-15 years). Pensioners are R9 each. There’s a boma that can be hired for R99 as well if you wish to have a “somewhat private” function. To be honest, it doesn’t really matter.
Some of the shorter trails are wider than most reserves which allows larger groups to use it without feeling cramped. The trails range from 800m to 4km so there’s something for every fitness level.

One of the main features of Paradise Valley is the waterfall which isn’t too far away from the picnic site. Be sure to lookout for the eagles nest that can be seen on a treetop near the waterfall.

Paradise Valley is a great day outdoors for the family. Make sure you get there early, even though there’s ample space to have a picnic or braai, it can get busy during the holidays.
