Snow World in Gateway

Time: 10am – 6pm Daily
Cost: R30 – R80 for 45min session
The idea of experiencing snow in Durban without the long drive to the mountains is appealing. However, if you’re planning a visit to Snow World in Gateway, it’s best to not have high expectations. Don’t get me wrong, your kids will have fun but in terms of bang for your buck, there’s not much here. The session is an hour and thankfully they don’t allow too many people per session so the queues for the slides aren’t hectic.
It seems like they miscalculated the speed at which people would come off the slides. The “landing area” is so short that staff have to catch you so you don’t fly off it.
A sandpit style, area is available for the smaller kids to play in the “snow” which is more like a freezer that froze over.
There’s a few anamtronic animals that the kids can ride on and take pictures. It seems a bit disjointed, perhaps they should have just stuck with a Christmas theme.
The Arctic chamber is nothing to rave about either. If you’re already at Gateway and have an hour to kill with your kids then give it a shot. However, don’t go out of your way for this event. We give it a 5 out of 10.
